Park Ranger, Ron Anundson (almost hidden by the tree) speaks to the group of around twenty-eight who attended the Geology Hike sponsored by Friends of Morrow Mt. State Park and Ken Knight of the Trails and Hiking Committee.

Steve Teeter, Earth Sciences Educator, points out features at the Civilian Conservation Corps old argillite quarry along the Quarry Trail. Most all construction stone used by the CCC in the park was argillite.

The group also walked sections of the Loop Trail at the top of Morrow Mountain and the geological and archaeological importance of rhyolite was discussed and observed. Morrow Mountain, because of its somewhat unique rhyolite that was favored by Stone Age tool makers, is the most important Stone Age quarry in North Carolina.
