On December 1, 2015 the Friends of Morrow Mountain State Park received the Locke Craig Award for it's exceptional spirit of dedication to public service and the commitment to conservation represented by the accomplishments of North Carolina Governor Locke Craig. This award was presented at the North Carolina State Park Superintendent's Convention at Haw River State Park.

"Since its inception, the Friends of Morrow Mountain have been an important partner to the park staff and its operations. From volunteer trail and park work days, providing significant monetary support to the annual Old Fashion Days, volunteering at every Morrow Mountain event, and providing a scholarship to a ranger to attend training, you are the voice of the park in the local community. Over the past two years you have tackled an enormous maintenance and beautification project which every visitor to Morrow Mountain State Park views and appreciates. Your efforts have rebuilt the iconic stone wall at the entrance to Morrow Mountain State Park, saving the state $40,000.00. Your efforts brought together park staff, volunteers, mulitple commerical donors, multiple individulal donors, and grants from Friends of State Parks."

"Your dedication to Morrow Mountain State Park has developed and broadened the constituency and public support for the state parks system and its programs. You have fostered public appreciation of and connection with the state's natural resources; and, have represented a high degree of innovation and creativity. We are pleased to recognize your special efforts with this award."
