The stone masons have finished and the restoration of the entrance wall is complete. But there is some cleaning up to be done. And for that purpose we the Friends of Morrow Mountain State Park are asking for volunteers Tuesday the 12th of August. We hope to move some of the leftover stone, rake some areas smooth and shovel some dirt. The plan is to start at 8:30 am. Please bring tools if you have them. Tools such as shovels, rakes and gloves will be needed. The more help we have the more we will get done.- photo credit: John Young
Since the CCC's original wide capping stones went missing years ago the stone masons had to use exposed mortar to create a watertight combination of stones on the top of the wall. By keeping the water out and with using other techniques this wall restoration should last at least another 75 years. - photo credit: John Young
The stone masons have finished. You can see how well the dry-stacked looking argillite stone wall compares to the original CCC entrance column. - photo credit: John Young
