Rocky Parker Masonry is almost finished with the stone wall restoration. It looks great and has the original look of the 1940 dry stacked CCC wall. Exposed mortar is required only for the top capping stones since the original, very wide stones, somehow disappeared years ago.
We will soon announce some volunteer work days to complete the project which will include carefully storing the extra argillite stones for later use in the park. Check back for the dates of those upcoming workdays which will include moving the extra stones with the help of equipment, clean-up around the wall and filling dirt back into the footing ditch, maybe putting out some mulch, and eventually replacing some cedar rails. The volunteer labor, from many folks, has been essential to make this project a reality along with our core sponsors - Friends of State Parks, Fiberon Decking, and Bank of NC.
