Friends of Morrow Mountain State Park Workday

posted: 3/26/2015

On Tuesday, March 31 at 8:30 am, members of the Friends of Morrow Mountain State Park will gather at the Morrow Mountain State Park Office to plant grass at the park Lodge and the Swimming Pool. This project has two goals; to reduce erosion and sedimentary runoff into Meeting House Branch which eventually drains into Lake Tillery; and to provide an attractive setting for these iconic old stone and wood facilities constructed by the craftsmen employed in the Civilian Conservation Corps. FMMSP Board member Robert Flake will be volunteering his tractor, tiller, and aerator to perform the heavy work, while other workers remove rocks and roots, rake out planting beds, and spread seed, fertilizer, and straw. Wear sturdy shoes, work clothes, and gloves if you want to volunteer for this hands-on project. If you have tools available; rotary spreaders, stiff rakes, mattocks, and shovels may prove useful in completing our planting tasks.

Thank you,
Greg Schneider

Follow up - April 2nd, 2015

This Tuesday, along with the labor of a few, the Friends of Morrow Mountain State Park provided 3 truckloads of bark from Mauney Feed Mill.

Chairperson Vanessa Mullinix reports that the front of the Office/Lodge looks good and we can be proud of the improvements.

We thank Vice Chair Robert Flake for his tractor and skill using it to till the soil preparing for seed and fertilizer. Director Laura Krug worked and provided the pictures.

The park provided personnel, seed, fertilizer and straw.
