On Friday, September 13, 2013, Park Ranger Jannon R Murr was promoted to the rank of Advanced Ranger at Morrow Mountain State Park. In addition to his emergency service and resource management duties, Ranger Murr will now be responsible for the operation of the park's Olympic-sized swimming pool and the boat rentals and concessions located on the shores of Lake Tillery. A graduate of Western Carolina University, Ranger Murr has served as a park ranger at Morrow Mountain State Park since February of 2010. Prior to joining the North Carolina Division of Parks and Recreation, Ranger Murr served the citizens of NC as a Special Agent with the NC Secretary of State's Office, as an Assistant County Ranger with the NC Division of Forest Resources, and as a Deputy Sheriff in Transylvania County. Among other honors, Ranger Murr has achieved his Advanced Law Enforcement Officer Certification, and has attained Certification as a NC Environmental Educator and as a Criminal Investigator.

North Carolina State Park Rangers are commissioned law enforcement officers who patrol NC State Parks lands and waters and who are trained to respond to all manner of emergencies with the state parks, including: criminal investigation, search and rescue, medical first aid, and wildland fire suppression. Park rangers are resource managers and educators; using their intimate knowledge of the park's plant and animal communities, mineral composition, and cultural history to preserve, protect and interpret the unique ecosystem of each park.
