The Queen City Chess Club meets on Tuesday nights at the Asian Library, 1339 Baxter St. All ages and playing strengths are welcome. Doors open at 6:30PM. Pairings made at 7:15PM and play starts at 7:30PM. Tuesday nights feature a perpetual five round USCF rated tourney with a time control of G/90. The Mars Hill Chess Club is a non-profit, community-based group that meets every other Friday from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Mars Hill Elementary School library. The club is open to everyone and there are no fees or dues. The club supports itself through raffles and donations.
Directions: Take the Mars Hill exit off 19-23 and go to the second red light and turn right onto North Main. Take the second left onto Bailey St. Go past Mars Hill College. Moving from Cape Fear Games to Pine Valley Church of Christ fellowship hall beginning January 6th, 2011. Club hours are from from 6:30pm to 10:30pm. Pine Valley Church is located at 3601 South College Road. This is near the intersection of South College Road and 17th Street Extension and is adjacent to the CVS Pharmacy on the northeast corner of the intersection.

After losing our playing site at Borders when they closed, the Winston-Salem Chess Club has moved to Miller Park Recreation Center, meeting Thursdays from 7 (available as early as 6 for those inclined) to 9:45 pm. From the Southwest corner of Thruway Shopping Center, where we met at Borders (off I-40 Business, Stratford or Knollwood Rd. exits), follow Knollwood Rd. south, about ¼ mile south of the intersection with Stratford, turn left from Knollwood onto Queen. (School on left, Miller Park on the right). Take Westfield on the right, then turn right again onto Leisure. Rec center is on the right. After entering the front entrance and spotting the reception area in front of you, look to the left for our room or to a room behind that one, on the Southwest side of the building.
