Hi All,

I've been asked to lead hikes at Morrow Mountain State Park this year and look forward to meeting all of you. By way of introduction, I live on Valley Drive very close to the park and hike there several times a week.

My friend Rusty Kerr and I typically hike the Sugarloaf Trail daily, starting at 5:00 pm and you are welcome to join us. We hike primarily for fitness, so we're not lollygagging on these hikes! Be at the horse trailer parking lot at 5:00 on weekdays (except Thursdays) if you'd like to go with us. Sugarloaf takes about 50 minutes.

On Saturdays, we usually meet at 7:30 a.m. and on Sundays at 1:30 p.m. If we're not there at the appointed times, well then go without us; you've already done the hard part - putting your on boots and driving to the park! Sometimes we will vary our hikes by adding Morrow Mountain or Hattaway or something off-trail to the hike. And in the winter we especially like to get off-trail. Another aspect of our enjoyment of the park is the search for and documentation of historic sites on the park. Many people have been involved with this project over the years, including Wanda Russell, Jeff Michael, Robert Stoker, Wade Stubbs and Ron Anundson. There are more than 30 documented home sites on the park, plus cemeteries, old roads, stone quarries, an inn, a post office and other features that we're interested in. We plan to take some hikes just to visit these historic features, most of which are off the established trails. We will try to provide some difficult hikes and some easier hikes so that more people can participate. Please feel free to provide feedback to me at any time by email or phone (704.982.8260 at home).

All the best, Ken Knight
